A furniture OEM in Hebei produces steel table legs, chair frames and cabinet enclosures for European retailers. Laser-cut tubes and sheet-metal brackets had razor-sharp edges that damaged protective powder coating and posed injury risks to end users during assembly. The customer needed a compact, affordable solution for a small-batch workshop.

Challenges

  • Part variety: over 40 different SKUs, ranging from 20 × 40 mm tubes to 600 mm wide panels.
  • Small batch sizes: typical order is 50–200 pieces, making dedicated fixtures uneconomical.
  • Cosmetic requirement: visible edges must be smooth and rounded, not ground flat.
  • Floor space: the workshop is only 80 m²; large machinery is not feasible.

Recommended Machine

Workflow Integration

  1. Sorting – Parts are grouped by thickness; the machine table is set to the corresponding conveyor gap.
  2. Deburring – Flat brackets pass through the abrasive belt station to remove slag and scale.
  3. Edge Rounding – Tubular parts are fed through the rotary brush station, which rounds all four edges simultaneously.
  4. Visual QC – An LED line illuminates the edge; operators reject parts with visible burrs.
  5. Packaging – Finished parts are packed with foam separators to protect the rounded edges during shipping.

Results

  • Edge-related customer complaints dropped from 12 per month to zero.
  • Changeover time between SKUs averages 3 minutes, supporting the high-mix workflow.
  • The machine fits comfortably in one corner of the workshop, leaving floor space for assembly.
  • Payback period was 10 months based on reduced rework and customer charge-backs alone.
